IPL: Rising Pune Supergiant vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 24th Match

It’s been an awful journey for the Rising Pune Supergiant so far and ofcourse for the new Captain Steven Smith. A side studded with Big Names like Dhoni, Smith and Rahane is yet to make an impact. Standing at the bottom of the table with 2 wins and 3 losses Supergiant will be looking to rejuvenate themselves from hereon. They have got the 5 days break between their last and next match.  Pune pitch supports spinner little bit and both the teams will be looking to exploit the chances as they have quality spinners in the side.

Supergiant won their last game against Royal Challengers and that too at Challengers home by the collective bowling efforts. Batting first, Supergiant’s openers Rahane and Tripathi gave the smashing start and added 63 runs on the score board with the run rate of 8+ but sooner RCB put their best bowler Badree and he succeeded in picking up one of the best batsman against Spin, Rahane. He completely deceived by the ball and got clean bowled after scoring 30 runs off 25 balls. Rahul Tripathi showed what he can do with the bat against Lions and similar was expected from him against RCB as well. Going on the line he was hitting the ball with much more conviction but it was Negi who could not let him continue what his job was to do. Tripathi scored quick 31 runs off 23 balls – A job well done. This time Dhoni stood up with Smith and added 58 runs for the 3rd wicket partnership but very unusual to their batting style, they slowed down the run rate further. Pune lost both of them in back to back two balls. 1st one to go was Dhoni scoring 28 off 25 and he was clean bowled by Shane Watson. 2nd one to go was Steven Smith in the same way as Dhoni. He was picked up by Aravind scoring only 27 runs off 24 balls. After loosing two quick wickets by Pune, the further damage was done by Milne and Aravind. In next two over Pune lost 3 more wickets. Aravind picked up Dan Christian and further Milne who was playing his first match clean bowled Ben Stokes and in next ball sent Shardul Thakur as well to the pavilion. It was Manoj Tiwary quick fire 27 runs off 11 balls which enable Supergiant to post 161 runs to the score board. In response, RCB got a poor start and it was Shardul Thakur who gave the early breakthrough and sent the Mandeep Singh on a duck. It was Kohli and ABD on the crease the two most dangerous batsman in the world but it was not their day. Kohli who was looking in nice touch could not continue his inning further and scored 28 runs off 19 balls. He was picked up by Ben Stokes. Very much on the expected lines, Smith called Imran Tahir and to RCB’s disappointment he bid a good bye to his fellow AB de Villers. ABD scored 29 runs. Jadhav who has really getting the praise for his batting but not this time, Unadkat who was playing his 1st match clean bowled Jadhav and in the next over it was Watson who got clean bowled on Shardul Thakur’s bowling. RCB by then lost their 5 wickets on 101 and it looked like their game is over. Binny and Negi put some fast runs but it was not over for Pune. Thakur and Stokes came to finish the unfinished task and picked up Negi and Binny in back to back two overs. Shardul Thakur and Ben Stoke stole the show by taking 3 wickets each followed by Unadkat 2 wickets and Tahir 1 wicket.

Defending Champion Sunrisers Hyderabad are performing very much on expected lines. With strong batting and bowling line-up they are at the 3 position with 4 wins and 2 losses. They have an aggressive Captain who is known for leading from the front whether it is batting or fielding. And in this season they are one of the top contender to carry IPL 10 cup. Last match Sunrisers played against Daredevils and as expected it was more than entertaining with two strong bowling sides.  Sunrisers won the toss and very much unexpected to the trend chose to bat first. They were playing against one of the strongest bowling line up this season and got the taste very early. In form David Warner who is in prime form lost his wicket scoring only 4 runs and it was Chris Morris who sent him as early as it can be but Sunrisers played their game very well and this time they called Kane Williamson and with Shikhar Dhawan it was no looking back for them. They added 136 runs partnership for 2 wicket and put Sunrisers in strong position. Morris picked 2nd wicket and sent Williamson scoring 89 runs in just 51 balls. After this, Dhawan played some shot but it was Morris again who picked his wicket. Dhawan scored 70 off 50 balls. Next ball Morris struck again and it was dangerous Yuvraj Singh to go. Unbeaten Henriques and Hooda posted the score of 191 runs. In response, Delhi Daredevils lost early wicket of Billings and it was newcomer Sunrisers introduced who picked the wicket – M. Siraj. Nair and Samson put up 71 runs for the 2nd wicket partnership. Next one to go was Nair and he showed some commitment this and but could not stay on the wicket and got run out scoring 33 runs. Rishbah Pant promoted up the order but wasted the opportunity and got out on a duck. He was picked up by Yuvraj Singh. M. Siraj came in for the 2nd spell and soon he came, he pick up Samson and gave the required breakthrough to his team. Iyer and Mathews showed some resistance and added 70 runs for the 5th wicket partnership. But slow start by the Mathews and a call to send him before them Chris Morris cost Daredevils their match. Iyer completed his 50 and Mathews got out scoring 31 runs and taken by S. Kaul. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the match by 15 runs. M. Siraj was the pick of the bowler from Hyderabad. He picked 2 wickets for 39 runs in 4 overs followed by S. Kaul and Yuvraj 1 wicket each.

Probable 11:

Pune: M. Dhoni (wk), A. Rahane, R. Tripathi, S. Smith, B. Stokes, M. Tiwary, D. Christian, S. Thakur, J. Unadkat, R. Chahar, I. Tahir.

Hyderabad: N. Ojha (wk), D. Warner, S. Dhawan, K. Williamson, Y. Singh. M. Henriques, D. Hooda, B. Kumar, R. Khan, M. Siraj, S. Kaul

Quick Facts:

Dan Christain has not been useful and can be replaced by Zampa as Pune pitch supports spinner and this can be the only move by Pune.

If they bring in Zampa then it is likely Rahul Chahar can be replaced by Deepak Chahar as Pune unlikely to go with 3 spinners and Deepak Chahar is fast bowler.

For Hyderabad as Williamson comes in and showed great performance, their top order seem to be perfect fit and Henriques could be axed because after first two matches he is yet to shine. If this happens then M. Nabi could be the one to replace him.

There is no update of Ashish Nehra. He is the important bowler and for Hyderabad it is important he should play as it is a long tournament and Nehra is experienced bowler and very useful too. If he is fit then S. Kaul could be the one to make way for him.

“thesportleagues in under suspension so till then it is up I will be posting here”

Karachi Kings vs Islamabad United

They are meeting again and this time I hope D/L method will not be coming in between as Islamabad United was the victim of the controversial method in their last clash. Both the teams are neck to neck on points table and one loss for any team can put other at one of the top positions.

Inclusion of Talented Hussain Talat proved to be a beneficial for Islamabad but Badree did not do well with the ball and went expensive too. Well Badree is one of the specialists of T20 in the world and one match can’t be a decider of his abilities. Whereas on the other side Karachi Kings are still struggling with their opening combination on the one hand it seems Babar Azam has found his sweet spot as an opener but other slot is still seems to be emptied though dropping Gayle and bringing in Jayawardene did not go down well with the team but again one match can’t be a decider.

Possible Lineup: Sanga (wk), Azam, Talat, D. Smith, Watson, Malik, Usama Mir, Sohail Khan, Rumman Raees, M. Sami, 11th.

Those who are looking to make team more of a balanced then they can fill the 11th spot with all-rounder  Shadab Khan/Pollard/Imad Wasim and those who want to make bowling more strong can include M. Amir at 11th spot.

CAP: Watson/Smith

VC: Malik/Azam

Lahore Qalandars vs Karachi Kings

It’s Lahore vs Karachi again. Last they met Lahore won over Karachi and this time Karachi will be eager to settle its accounts. Hint of a blitzer from none other than Gayle, first time in PSL we saw something is coming but as usual could not stay for long. This time Karachi need their Star Blaster to perform as they have won only 2 matches out of 6.

Lahore is waiting for McCullum to arrive before Gayle and this could be a match to both to outperform each other. Well this we have to see. Men who are in form Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Usama Mir, Tanvir, Aamer Yamin,

Possible Lineup 1: Sanga /Rizwan(wk), Zaman, Azam, U. Akmal, Narine, S. Malik, Delport/Yamin, Sohail Khan, Yasir Shah, Tanvir, Usama Mir.

Yasir Shah has performed well in last two matches, but Fakar Zaman who had shown some class has been a disappointment in last two matches. As Fakar Zaman has failed miserably in last two matches, you can opt for Gayle or McCullum instead. Aamer Yamin has shown some promising performance with bat as well as with the ball so one can opt him in place of Delport.

Cap: Babar Azam/Narine

VC: Malik/Akmal.

Quetta Gladiators vs Islamabad United

They are meeting for the 2nd time in PSL and surely Quetta will be looking to revenge them for their loss.

In Last Match some beautiful performances by A. Shafiq, A. Shehzad, Mahmudullah and Anwar Ali put Quetta to taste a win against Star Pack of Karachi Kings and we expect the same performance from them this time as well.

Same did not go well with Islamabad United as they lost against Lahore Qalandars in their last match even after putting up the brilliant show by Shadab Khan and Rumman Raees.

T. Perera was not a part of the team due to his performance of last two matches and unlikely to be a part today’s match as Quetta will not be willing to change its winning side.

Possible Lineup: S. Ahmed (wk), Pieterson, D. Smith, Asad Shafiq, Rossouw, Mahmudullah, Shadab Khan, Shane Watson, Rumman Raees, M. Sami, Hassan Khan.

As there are possibilities of Luke Wright to be included into the team as the expense of Pieterson or Rossouw as both are unable to put up a big show. But until and unless it is not confirmed we can’t take a risk.

One can opt Anwar Ali inplace of Hassan Khan. M. Irfan in place of Rumman Raees.

CAP: Dwayne Smith/Watson

VC: Mahmudullah/Pieterson

Karachi Kings – Quetta Gladiators

Karachi Kings are back in the game so as Pieterson (Quetta). Last time they met and Quetta won by 7 wickets. Both the teams have very strong bowling lineups. Karachi Bowlers – Sohail Khan, Usama Mir, Usman Khan, M. Amir and Imad Wasim and Quetta – Perera, M.Nawaz, Hasan Khan, Mills, Z. Babar, Anwar Ali and Umar Gul.

The Men in form – Riley Rossouw, Pieterson, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Sangakkara, Sarfaraz Ahmed.

So there are many options to make the balanced side.

Batting lineup of Quetta is more stronger with the likes of Pieterson, Rossouw, Sarfaraz and ofcourse Perera who can park the ball outside the stadium anytime.

From Karachi, ofcourse one man is more than enough i.e. Gayle, but unfortunately he is not in form. So they are only left with Babar Azam, Sangakkara, Shoaib Malik.

Possible lineup 1: Sarfaraz (wk), Babar Azam, Pieterson, Rossouw, Shoaib Malik, Perera, Sohail Khan, Hasan Khan, Usama Mir, M Amir, Ravi Bopara/Pollard.

Asad Shafiq did not play in last match and Shehzad is not in form so he is likely to make way for Asad Shafiq.

To make batting side more balance from both the sides I have added Bopara, because Quetta’s bowling is very strong and his chance for batting likely to come sooner than later.

I know many would not like to include bopara so make it even you can take either Pollard which is one possible option or choose Sangakkara in place of Sarfaraz, then you have one place vacant which can be filled by either bowler or All rounder Imad Wasim or M. Nawaz

Possible lineup 2: Sanga (wk), Babar Azam, Pieterson, Rossouw, Shoaib Malik, Perera, M. Nawaz/Imad Wasim, Sohail Khan, Mir, Hassan Khan, M. Amir.

CAP: Rossouw/Perera

VC: Azam/Malik/Pieterson

Latest Update:

# Ryan Mclaren likely to be included in the team

Australia – SriLanka

Yet another T20.

SriLanka has put Australian in a shock. Well I hope Australia make a comeback in last T20.

It is in Adelaide and Travis Head has given some fine performances in this ground in Big Bash League and also against Pakistan in Jan 2017 where he made 128 runs. So hope for the best from him in this game and that too on batting pitch.

Dickwella has been suspended for two matches so only option left for keeping is either Paine or Dunk. Well undoubtedly it’s Ben Dunk as he had shown some power hitting performance in last match and also Paine comes down the order.

Team 1: Dunk (Wk), Klinger, Finch, Turner, Munaweera, Gunaratne, Head, Tye, Cummins, Maligna, Kulasekara.

Team2: Dunk (Wk), Klinger, Finch, Turner/Kapugedara, Sanjaya, Tharanga, Faulkner, Gunaratne, Malinga, Cummins, TYE/Kulasekara.

Well one can also go for Henriques in place of Head  as per the last match performance, whichever is your favorite and as per your belief. Kulasekara can be replaced with Sanjaya, but he has taken 4 wickets in last match and Sanjaya has been consistently taking couple of wickets from last few matches. To make team more balanced you can take Kapugedra and replace TYE.

If someone is thinking about one should not opt for Turner. He has taken wickets in both the T20s and comes to batting in Middle Order and can be replaced with Faulker who has also taken 2 wickets in last match

CAP: Klinger/Finch

VC: Gunaratne/Head

Latest Update:

# Zampa can be included into the team at the expense of Paine or Turner.

# After the suspension of Dickwella, Sandakan/Pathirana like to be included in the team.

New Zealand vs Australia (Women)

So it’s T20 Again.

As it is T20, we are focussed more on All-Rounders and Bowlers for two reason. One is All-Rounders get two chances to get points where as bowlers get straight away 10 points for one wicket and  they get point too for maintaining economy and Maiden Overs.

Team : R. Priest (WK), M.Lanning, E.Vilani, Alex Blackwell, Suzie Bates, Amy Satterthwaite, Molly Strano/Gardner, K. Beams, L.Tahuhu, A. Wellington, H. Huddleston.

I have taken Priest as a WK because she is an opener.Top batswomen from Australia Lanning, Vilani, Blackwell. You can take Gardner or Strano or Peterson all have their advantages.

Gardner comes up the order to bat and she bowls also and Strano is a good bowler and have taken 5 wkt in last match and Peterson took 3 wkts and that too HAT-TRICK.

Top Three batswomen as per order of batting from New Zealand are Priest, Bates, Satterthwaite. If anyone wants to take one more batswoman from New Zealand then choose Perry/Martin inplace of Blackwell.

CAP and VC: Bates, Satterthwaite, Lanning, Vilani.

All are performers but as I say I am more inclined towards all-rounders who comes up the order and bowl as well.

Lahore Qalandars – Islamabad United

Time to say bye bye to Jason Roy and Sam Billings. so Lahore and Islamabad will have to find a good replacement for  Jason Roy and Sam Billings as they have left for West Indies.

After contributing with the bat as well as ball, I believe Cameron Delport will be a part of it for a while and also Jason Roy has left so out of 4 places for foreign players 3 are filled in by Sunil Narine, Cameron Delport, Brendon McCullum and let’s see who will come in place of Jason Roy next. Same goes with the Islamabad who will be their 4th foreign player.

Team: M. Rizwan (wk), D. Smith, Fakar Zaman, Umar Akmal, Misbah, S. Watson, Cameron Delport, Sunil Narine, M.Irfan, M. Sami, S. Tanvir.

You may also opt for B. Haddin though he is not in form. Brendon McCullum did not open in last match but this time he can open as Jason Roy has left.G. Elliott did not play in the last match but he can make a come back and fill in the 4th place which is vacant now after Jason Roy has left. Yasir Shah is struggling with his form and have not performed as per expectations except one match and that too applied with Saeed Ajmal as well.

Cap: Smith/Watson

V-Cap: Zaman/Delport/Rizwan

Update: M. Irfan may not play, so you can take Raees/M.Irfan (Jnr).

Peshawar Zalmi vs Karachi Kings

Who will play and who will not. It is as uncertain as the form of Chris Gayle (you never know when his bat start speaking).

It is T20 again and best 11 could be as per the current form of the players.

Team: Kumar Sangakkara (Wk), Eoin Morgan, Babar Azam, Tamim Iqbal, Imad Wasim, Shoad Mailk, M. Hafeez, M. Amir, Usama Mir, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali.

Rest: You can choose Kamran Akmal instead of Sanga but as per last few matches Akmal is not in form. Jordan did not play in last match and Sohail Khan as well. Gayle is also an option but again not even he knows when his bat will start bombarding the bowlers. You can also opt for Sakib hasan as he is back but he come down the order 5-6th down(hardly any use with the bat) and he may take 1 or 2 wickets.

Karachi Bowlers are really good- Amir, Wasim, Mir- so it will be tough task for Peshawar batsmen specially for openers. Whereas absence of Jordan in last two matches have already started costing them as they lost last match. Jordan is the man of death overs and he can turn the tides. So it will be interesting to see if he will be in today’s match or not.

Most Probably this will be the last match of Eoin Morgan in PSL.

Cap: Babar Azam is in form so as Eoin Morgan and Tamim Iqbal

Vcap: M. Hafeez is not going good with bat but he is an opener or can take 1 or 2 wkts. other options are Sanga/Akmal.

Try to go with one Batsman/Wk and one all-rounder for Cap – VC. Because an all-rounder gets two chances to perform (with bat and ball).

Twenty20 Match.

More focus should be upon Bowlers or All-rounders as it is a T20 so chances are very high that everyone will be willing to take more than just a risk. And also Australia has already lost one match so it will try more than 100% to come back and win this match.

Team: Dickwella, Klinger, Finch, Turner, Munaweera, Gunaratne, Head, Faulkner, Malinga, Zampa, Cummins.

One can also opt for M. Henriques in place of turner but as he did not ball in last match so I am doubtful for this match also. Though he can bat very well but still Turner took 2 wickets in last match.

Hard Call –

Cap: Head, Klinger, Finch.

VCap: Gunaratne (All Rounder), Faulkner, Head.

It’s a batsmen friendly pitch so try to opt for one hitter or allrounder who comes up the order and complete 3-4 overs of bowling as well
